Volunteer Spotlight: A Cause I Care About

A cause that I care about is helping those individuals who are recovering from drug use reintegrate into society. Addiction takes away more from people than it gives, leaving many people struggling to rebuild their lives. People turn to drugs for various reasons, this can be peer pressure, curiosity or using it as an escape from stress and reality. Despite the euphoria, the consequences of addiction are devastating and can lead to broken relationships and long-term health problems.

Reintegration is one aspect that many struggle with. Many go through alot and find it difficult to get clean and when they do, they often face judgement, unemployment and a lack of support. Studies show that without proper resources, people in recovery are at a high risk of depression and relapse, which can make it more difficult to build back their lives.

Growing up, I always wanted to help those who were struggling with addiction. Everyone is different and goes through life differently. No one should be defined for their past mistakes. Which is why I have always wanted to assist in ways that can help individuals rebuild their life, find employment and feel accepted again.

I am a young volunteer for Listen to Act in a Communications and Marketing role. I chose this topic to write about because it is something I wish to participate in. I want to do this by helping those in recovery access the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
